Spain Amphitheatre of Itálica
On the outskirts of Santiponce, north of Seville, large areas of ancient Itálica have been excavated. It was the first Roman city on the Iberian Peninsula in 206 BC, with an estimated population of around 10,000. The amphitheatre is considered one of the largest in the empire and could hold 25,000 spectators. People from surrounding areas probably also came to the events.
The impressive amphitheatre is in ruins in many areas, while other areas are quite well preserved. Restoration work has been carried out in some places.
