Spain Ciutadella de Roses
The Ciutadella de Roses is a fortified archaeological complex located on the coast of the Gulf of Roses in northeastern Catalonia, Spain. Enclosed within Renaissance-era bastioned walls constructed in the 16th century, the site preserves a multilayered historical record spanning more than two millennia. Its remains include traces of the ancient Greek colony of Rhode, later Roman occupation, a medieval monastery dedicated to Santa Maria, and subsequent military structures reflecting the strategic importance of the area.
