Sweden Stora Blåsjön
Stora Blåsjön is sometimes described as Sweden’s answer to Salar de Uyuni. On a calm day, when the wind drops and the surface turns completely still, the lake becomes a vast mirror for the mountains, clouds and sky. But unlike a shallow salt flat, Stora Blåsjön is a deep mountain lake, reaching 144 metres at its deepest point. It is part of a system of regulated lakes in the Jämtland mountains, shaped both by nature and hydropower. Depending on the water level, a beautiful sandy beach appears along the shore, adding another unexpected element to the landscape. In the right light and stillness, the place feels almost untouched.
Photography Tips
Use a polarizing filter to control reflections and bring out the colours in the water and sky. Try shooting when the wind is calm, as the lake can turn into a natural mirror.
