The colorful shoreline of Lake Natron is painted in shades of red, pink and orange by salt-loving microorganisms and mineral-rich waters. Set beneath the dramatic Rift Valley escarpment, this shallow alkaline lake creates an otherworldly landscape that shifts with the light and water levels.

Photography Tips

In dependency on the water levels, the shorelines can have beautiful outlays towards the lake. In the end of the lake you will see Ol Doinyo Lengai which you can perfectly frame with the shoreline.

Travel Information

The shoreline is best explored with a local guide, usually from Engaresero village. Expect hot, dry conditions, limited shade and rough access roads. Avoid entering the highly alkaline water, and check conditions before walking across the salt flats.
