The Phraya Nakhon Cave is a natural cave where parts of the roof have been falling in, opening the cave for light and vegetation. In the cave, there is a small historic pavilion and on the walls of the cave, three different Thai kings engraved their signatures.

Photography Tips

I visited twice, once on the weekend and once on a weekday. During that weekday the cave was empty, I was there alone for nearly two hours. On the weekend there were a few other people, but it was far from crowded. I was there in the afternoon but heard that the light is most spectacular sometime between 10:00 am and 12:00 am.
*Note that the sunlight only hits the temple directly late-December / January*

Travel Information

Parking spaces are marked on the map. 1st part of the journey is either a 10 minute boat ride, or a ~45 minute up and over a hill, to the beach. Once you get to the beach, you need to walk uphill to the cave complex. It's about 100m vertical, 600m total distance. Quite steep, bring some water! After your visit, enjoy the restaurant on the beach before the boat or hike back to the parking area.

I was lucky enough to go during the "Direct Sunlight" month (January) - it's stunning then.
