Grey Knotts stands above Honister Mine at the top of the pass between Borrowdale and Buttermere. As the name suggests its top is a collection of rocky knolls, grey in colour from the weathered Borrowdale Volcanic rock with a scattering of small tarns.

Photography Tips

Utilising the car park at the Honister Mine gives you a great starting point to scale the hills. Especially if you're only heading up for a sunset snap.

Travel Information

There is plenty of parking at the Honister Mine and National Trust car park. Honister pass can be a little tight in places but it's well worth the drive.
