United Kingdom Winchester Cathedral
Winchester is one of the most iconic cathedrals in England. It boasts the longest nave of any Gothic cathedral in Europe. It is Winchester's main tourist attraction, and can be very busy during the day, especially in the summer and at Christmas.
Photography Tips
Photographs of the western end of the cathedral, which is the main entrance, are best taken towards sunset when it can be bathed in golden light. It's also likely to be quieter. It is a large building, and it can be hard to get far enough away to avoid perspective distortions. Using the area around the war memorial can help, as can the grassy areas on the approach.
Travel Information
Winchester is well served by public car parks, though those in the very centre of the city can fill up with shoppers and visitors. Fortunately, the city is small and there are other car parks, such as St Peter's, that are only a few minutes walk from the centre. There are park and ride services too, which are very cost-effective if you plan to stay the entire day. The Barfield park and ride is easy to access. It's also only a few minutes walk from the cathedral and Winchester College, if you prefer not to take the bus.
