United Kingdom The Westgate, Winchester
The Westgate is one of the historic gateways into the original city of Winchester. Now bypassed by the modern road network it is still a main pedestrian thoroughfare. The building now houses the Westgate Museum.
Photography Tips
It can be busy during the day. Night time can offer quieter streets. The arches can form frames for street photography.
Travel Information
Winchester is well served by public car parks, though those in the very centre of the city can fill up with shoppers and visitors. Fortunately, the city is small and there are other car parks, such as St Peter's, that are only a few minutes walk from the centre. There are park and ride services too, which are very cost-effective if you plan to stay the entire day. The Barfield park and ride is easy to access. It's also only a few minutes walk from the cathedral and Winchester College, if you prefer not to take the bus
