Carew Castle is one of Pembrokeshire’s most atmospheric locations to photograph. Set beside the tidal millpond, the castle offers plenty of opportunities for both wider landscapes and more intimate details, particularly when the light is low and the reflections in the water are at their best.
The combination of the ancient stonework, surrounding landscape and ever-changing Welsh weather makes it a fascinating place to explore with a camera.

Carew Castle works particularly well at both sunrise and sunset, when the lower light adds warmth and texture to the castle walls. On a calm day, the millpond can produce beautiful reflections, while the castle also makes a great foreground subject for astro photography after dark. Another big advantage is the easy access, with a paved path running around the castle and millpond, making it simple to explore different viewpoints without any difficult walking.

Carew Castle is easy to get to by car, with parking available on both sides of the castle, making it a convenient location for a photography visit. There’s also a pub directly opposite, which is always a nice addition after a morning or evening out with the camera!
