United Kingdom River Glaven, Salt Marshes.
Shot on the River Glaven in the salt marshes at low tide. This is a great location for boat photography during low tide and while the tide is slowly moving in.
Photography Tips
Due to the location it’s best to take waterproofs or waders. I took the train with my bike from Norwich to Sheringham. Then from Sheringham to Holt on the Poppy Line. This service is limited during hot summers and off peak seasons. I cycled the remainder of the way to Blakeney. During the low tide waders are advices or wellingtons. The location is extremely muddy and you can easily get bogged down quickly. It’s probably best to lock your bike up somewhere safe too. The mud will stick to it like gum. Take ND filters and a tripod with tripod shoes. Long exposure shots are good in this location. And there’s a fair amount of boats and unusual landscape patterns to shoot too.
During the summer seasons be wary of where you point your camera. At the head of the river near to the shoreline tourists frequent the area in their droves. Lots of children swimming in the mud flats. While I never encountered a problem I could see my camera was causing some to be concerned.

Travel Information
The cycle route is best but car is just as easy. That said be mindful of parking times and restrictions. Cellular coverage in the region is poor. Do not attempt to stay past the incoming tide. I don’t live far from here and every year the RNLI are called out to stranded residents and tourists. It’s easy to do. The tide is known in this area to sweep around you and cut you off. If you find yourself cut off call the coastguard immediately. There is NO direct train to either Holt or Blakeney. You can use the Poppy Line which is an expensive but worth it if you’re into old locomotive’s. I’ll stay a few days next time rather than one. Cley Mill isn’t far and can be walked to via the coastal path. The mill is up for sale as of 2026. So, it may not be a hotel anymore if the new owners convert it back to a residential property.
