USA Northern Lights from Murphy Dome
- Please to see the GPS coordinates & weather for this photo spot
This spot is a pull-off on Murphy Dome, which is about twenty-five (25) miles from downtown Fairbanks, Alaska. The ambient light to the south is minimal. There is ambient light directly to the north from the radar site.
The pull-off spot is perfect for setting up and waiting for the Northern Lights. These photos were taken on a September night in 2016. Be prepared to battle wind and chilly temperatures. Put a good counter weight on your tripod.
Take Airport Way, AK-3 and Sheep Creek Road to Murphy Dome Road. Follow it up to the pull-off, which is directly downhill from the radar site.
