The Haines Highway runs more or less along the Chilkat River (not to be confused with the Chilkoot River with Grizzlies and Bold Eagles).
This river is fed by the surrounding glaciers. It meanders in a very wide bed. Large gravel surfaces adumbrate that it runs much more water at the snowmelt.
