USA Sprague Lake

Sprague Lake offers a serene, mirror-like view of the Continental Divide, with Hallett Peak and Flattop Mountain reflecting in the calm water at sunset. It’s one of the most accessible and peaceful photo locations in Rocky Mountain National Park — perfect for capturing still mornings with vibrant sky color and mountain drama.

Arrive 30–45 minutes before sunset to catch peak color and secure a prime shoreline spot. Use a tripod and try a longer exposure (1–2 seconds) to smooth the lake surface. A wide-angle lens is ideal for capturing the full reflection and dramatic sky. If clouds are present, bracket exposures or shoot vertical panos to capture the full dynamic range.

Located just off Bear Lake Road, Sprague Lake has its own parking lot with restrooms and a flat, 0.8-mile loop trail around the lake. It's wheelchair accessible and easy to reach before dawn. Parking is limited, so early arrival is recommended, especially during peak season.
