USA Lowell Glacier Waterfalls
We approached this seagull nesting area via a “26 Glacier” day cruise out of Whittier, Alaska. All of the white specks on the wall that isn’t seagull guano are seagulls. Thousands of them. As the boat got closer, the wall of seagulls seemed to explode, almost completely engulfing the vessel. The reason for the simultaneous panic was clear,. A North American Bald Eagle flew just over my shoulder and landed high on the wall. The captain of the boat explained that these large birds of prey frequently visit the wall to hunt eggs, chicks, and even adult seagulls. The bald eagle is the national bird of the United States. It has a wingspan of up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) in Alaska. Large enough to scare the (guano) out of birds, fish, and mammals.
