USA Deadhorse
Dead horse, the name for this something at the end of the Dalton Highway could not be more fitting. It's not a town, it's not a village, nobody has a home here. It is an industrial camp, dusty and noisy. The buildings are functional, industrial and commercial enterprises, warehouses, vehicle sheds, a few hotels and inns for the people who work here and on the oil fields of Prudhoe Bay.
Travel Information
The building, whose porch is plastered with stickers from all over the world, houses a spare parts shop. Almost everything a man needs is available here. Above it on the first floor is the general store, a food and souvenir shop. We can't buy bread here. The shop assistant's explanation baffles us and yet makes sense: ‘Everyone who works here is supplied by their companies’. The range of sweets, drinks and snacks is very good.
