USA Chicken Creek
The up to 400 gold miners of the late 1800s fed on the Ptarmigan, which were common in the region. When a post office was established, the town was to be called Ptarmigan. This was considered too complicated and so the name was changed to Chicken.
As grotesque as the naming, the ‘place’ is still as wacky today. It consists of just a few bars, ‘restaurants’ and the ‘Gold Camp’.
