USA Denali Highway, western end
Before the completion of the George Parks Highway between Fairbanks and the Glenn Highway (and thus Anchorage) in 1971, the Denali Highway was the only access road to Denali National Park from the Richardson Highway. Even today, it is only partly tarmac and mostly gravel.
The landscape along this road can be considered as one of the most beautiful in Alaska.
In the early morning, clouds still hung in the mountains of the Alaska Range north of the highway.
