The Storm King Ranger Station sits quietly near the shores of Lake Crescent in Olympic National Park. Surrounded by towering evergreens and lush ferns, this rustic log structure perfectly captures the timeless charm of the Pacific Northwest. The cabin’s weathered wood and mountain backdrop make it an incredible subject for moody, atmospheric photography—especially on overcast days or misty mornings.

Photography Tips

Best photographed under soft, diffused light from overcast skies or just after rainfall when the surrounding forest is rich and saturated. A standard or short telephoto lens (50–85mm) works beautifully to frame the cabin against the trees. Arrive early in the morning to avoid other visitors, and use a polarizer to control reflections and deepen color contrast in the greens.

Travel Information

The ranger station is located along the southern shore of Lake Crescent, near the Storm King Ranger Station parking area. It’s easily accessible by foot from the parking lot and close to the popular Marymere Falls Trailhead. Parking is limited during peak hours, so visiting early morning or late afternoon is best.
