Mount St. Helens has been famous since its catastrophic eruption on May 18, 1980. Its northern slope slid away, creating a horseshoe-shaped crater that we can clearly see in the photograph.

The nearest landmark is Iron Creek Falls. You can get there via Route NFD 25. Then you have to take a small side road, NF 99, which leads to the volcano.
