USA Look Rock Overlook - Foothills Parkway

The Look Rock Overlook along the western section of the Foothills Parkway offers one of the most breathtaking sunset views in the entire Smoky Mountains region. The stone wall overlook frames a sweeping panorama of rolling forested ridgelines layered into the hazy distance. During peak fall color, the golden hour light rakes across the mountainside and illuminates the foliage in a way that is hard to match anywhere else in the Southeast.

This spot is all about sunset. Arrive at least 30 to 45 minutes before sunset to get set up and scout your exact position along the overlook wall. Peak fall color typically hits late October in this elevation range. The trees flanking the overlook make for excellent natural framing. A wide angle lens works best here to capture the full depth of the mountain layers.

Access via the Foothills Parkway West between Walland and Chilhowee, Tennessee. Look Rock is located near the eastern end of this section of the parkway. There is a paved parking area and a short walking path up to the overlook tower and lower overlook platform. No entrance fee for this section of the Foothills Parkway.
