Vietnam Hon Kho Island & Sargassum Seaweed Season
Located just a short boat ride from Nhon Hai Fishing Village, Hon Kho Island is one of the most stunning coastal gems in Quy Nhon. Famous for its crystal-clear turquoise waters and rocky cliffs, the island transforms into a visual spectacle during the sargassum seaweed season (mùa rong mơ).
Under the clear summer sea, dense underwater forests of golden-brown sargassum bloom over the coral reefs. When viewed from above with a drone, local fishermen cast green fishing nets over these golden seaweed fields, creating breathtaking color contrast and organic geometric patterns on the emerald water. Hon Kho is a world-class location for aerial, fine-art landscape, and travel photography.

Photography Tips
Best Time: May to July during the sargassum season. Shoot between 8:00 AM – 11:00 AM or 2:00 PM – 4:30 PM when high sunlight penetrates deep into the clear water, revealing the golden seaweed fields and coral structures underneath. Best Gear: A drone (flycam) equipped with a CPL (Circular Polarizer) or ND filter is essential to cut through water glare and capture bird's-eye views of fishermen, nets, and seaweed fields. On a boat or canoe, use a wide-angle lens (16-35mm) to capture the rugged island against the turquoise sea.
Composition: Position green fishing nets or coracle boats against the golden-brown seaweed seabed for striking color contrast. Frame high-altitude panoramic shots including the rocky island contours, wooden walkways, and floating rafts.
