Vietnam Minh Quat Ban Fermented Soy Sauce Craft Village
Situated in Ban Yen Nhan Town, Hung Yen Province, the Minh Quat soy sauce workshop is one of the most famous places preserving the centuries-old traditional craft of making Ban fermented soy sauce (tương Bần). Stepping into the spacious open-air yards, visitors are awe-struck by hundreds of earthy terracotta jars lined up in meticulous parallel rows under the bright sun.
Local artisans carefully stir the fermenting liquid, spread golden mold-fermented sticky rice onto large bamboo flat baskets (nong mold), and sun-dry the ingredients daily. Seen from above via drone or high-angle perspectives, the repeating circular jar openings and bright yellow bamboo trays create striking geometric visual patterns. The location offers an impressive backdrop for aerial, fine-art portraiture, and documentary culture photography.

Photography Tips
Best Time: Sunny mornings (8:30 AM – 11:30 AM) when local workers open the jar lids to stir and sun-cure the soy sauce, and sunlight causes the golden mold rice on bamboo trays to glow vividly. Best Gear: A drone (flycam) is ideal for capturing high-altitude aerial views of neat rows of jars and circular bamboo trays. On the ground, a full-frame camera with a 24-70mm f/2.8 zoom lens or a 50mm f/1.4 prime lens works best for framing models in Ao Dai among the maze of ceramic urns.
Composition: Shoot top-down from high angles to emphasize the rhythmic, geometric symmetry of circular clay jars and yellow flat baskets. Alternatively, frame low-angle perspective shots using foreground jars to create a leading pathway toward a walking subject.
