Antarctica Pete´s Pillar, Deception Island
Deception Island in Antarctica is a flooded volcanic caldera where ships can sail directly into its sheltered harbor through a narrow passage called Neptune’s Bellows. The island’s black sand beaches, steaming geothermal vents, wildlife and abandoned whaling stations create an eerie, otherworldly atmosphere. It’s one of the few places in Antarctica where you can stand between fire and ice.
Photography Tips
Be ready with your camera when you drive into the volcano caldera. It's a very close drive next to the cliffs and spectacular. Stay outside the deck on your right side.
