This shows one of the few locations where the lake shore can be accessed by 4WD vehicles. The image is basically a record shot but may be useful for anyone thinking of visiting the lake. Basic camping facilities are provided including a toilet.

Photography Tips

People have differing opinions about the best height to fly and lens selection. This was taken at 600 feet. Flying in the golden hour is best but low light can present challenges with camera settings. A high shutter speed is needed to prevent motion blur. When shooting straight down depth of field is not a problem so a small f-stop can be used. Settings for this image were: 1/750 sec, f8, ISO 400, 96mm FL.

Travel Information

William Creek is a good base location for an excursion to Halligan Bay. It's about 70 km to the camp ground. The track is suitable for 4WD vehicles ONLY! Be warned that looking at the lake from the shore is not a particularly rewarding photographic experience.
