Contemporary architecture and landscape are the principal inspirations for my photography.
In terms of architectural work, my interest has moved beyond taking traditional "portraits" of notable or interesting buildings to creating conceptual interpretations of the architecture. Typically, I seek simplified forms and vibrant colours in a composition made strong by careful use of line, form and pattern. Being semi-abstract interpretations of a building, the images do not readily lend themselves to interpretation by traditional pictorial values. Post production enhancement is used as a part of the creative process and this may push the images further towards the abstract, resulting in an image that give no clue to the original subject. As a counter point, the sculptural nature of architectural subjects very often makes a monochrome rendition most appropriate. Indeed I see the monochrome image as the modernist heritage of architectural photography.
My enduring interest is landscape photography. Getting into wild places and searching for a special location and lighting effect is always a joyful challenge but holds the seeds of frustration if mother nature doesn't provide appropriate weather and lighting.
