Australia Eroded ancient sand dunes. Lake Mungo.
World Heritage Mungo National Park is home to the famous Mungo Lady and Mungo Man; it is a place rich in Aboriginal history and featuring spectacular eroded forms.
Photography Tips
The best time to photograph is later afternoon in the golden hour. The western sun illuminates the formations and enhances their warm colours. Since access is limited to a few viewing platforms, it is recommended that you book a guided tour.
Travel Information
Mungo is in the Australian outback in desert country, so you need to have independent travel arrangements. The most convenient approach is to drive from Mildura, a 1.5-hour drive. Mildura is a reasonably sized town southwest of Mungo on the Victorian side of the River Murray with lots of accommodation options. Coach tours are also available, but may limit photographers' freedom of movement.
