Austria Galgenberg
Galgenberg (545 m.a.s.l.) - The gallows hill in the Austrian municipality of Irnfritz-Messern is a hill near the town of Messern, on which three stone pillars were erected that served as gallows. The hilltop is clearly visible from the surrounding area. The road from Messern to Rotweinsdorf ran past the gallows. The eight-meter-high pillars, which are made of rubble stone, have holes at the bottom. A removable beam was placed in such an opening, on which the condemned person had to stand for the execution of the sentence. These holes are still present. The gallows are the subject of folk tales that circulate in the area.
