Austria The colorful Zwettl near Groß Gerungs
Large sections of the Zwettl have been preserved in their old riverbed and are surrounded by forests (beech, spruce, larch, birch). The Zwettl rises between Karlstift and Langschlag in the area of the great European watershed, not far from the source of the Kamp. More precisely: in the Reichenauerwald forest on the southern slope of the Binderberg (1015 m). On its further course, it flows eastwards via Langschlag, Groß Gerungs, Wurmbrand, Jagenbach, and Schloss Rosenau. The Zwettl flows into the Kamp in the town of the same name, Zwettl. It takes in 78 source streams along its course. Gradient: 7.3 m per kilometer.
Photography Tips
The Zwettl River owes its characteristic color mainly to the water that comes from a
raised bog rich in humic substances and dark organic materials, which gives the water a dark, coffee- or tea-like color, especially when it mixes with other bodies of water such as the Kamp.
Here you can take photos rich in contrast.
