Belgium Stappersven

Stappersven is one of the largest heathland ponds in Flanders and a highly valuable ecosystem within the cross-border Kalmthoutse Heide (Kalmthout Heathland).

The area features heathland ponds surrounded by forest, sand dunes, dry and wet heath, peat bogs, oak-birch forests and Scots pine woods.

Best shooting times are early mornings during spring or autumn, when the fog adds mystery and depth to heathland scenes.

The heather blooms from early August to mid september, depending on weather conditions.

What to Capture:
* Stappersven Pond: Use reflections creatively—especially with the watchtower or tree silhouettes.

* Heather in Bloom: Late summer (August) is ideal for vibrant purple landscapes.

* Wildlife: Bring a telephoto lens for birds, deer, or reptiles like the adder.

* Sand Dunes & Trails: Use leading lines to guide the viewer’s eye through the composition.

* Watchtower “De Stapper”: Great for wide-angle shots and panoramic views from the top.

Visitor center: NEC De Vroente, located at the main entrance of the Kalmthoutse Heide

Accessibility: Freely accessible via marked paths; sturdy shoes recommended
