Belgium Meerdaalwoud
Meerdaalwoud, located just south of Leuven in Flemish Brabant, is one of the largest and most ecologically significant deciduous forests in Flanders.
Much of Meerdaalwoud has likely been continuously forested since the Middle Ages. However, archaeological evidence suggests human activity, including agriculture, during the Roman and Iron Age periods.
Meerdaalwoud spans over 1,300 hectares, featuring a mix of deciduous and coniferous trees, with rich undergrowth of shrubs, flowers, and ferns.
