Czech Republic Bretschneider ear
Bretschneider's ear is part of the National Eavesdropping Memorial. Bretschneider's ear was the first of the reliefs to be unveiled, on 23 June 2005, and was named after the secret policeman in the novel The Good Soldier Svejk by the writer Jaroslav Hašek. This three-metre-high ear bolt was carved by a group of stonemasons led by Radomír Dvořák from Havlíčkův Brod and was supposedly based on a plaster model of an ear from the Czech Crown Inn. The relief is supposed to symbolize the spiking, one of the characteristics that has accompanied the Bohemians throughout history.
