Georgia Holy Mother Virgin Nativity Cathedral, Georgia
The Holy Mother Virgin Nativity Cathedral is one of Batumi’s most impressive historic landmarks. Built in a striking Neo-Gothic style, its twin towers rise above the surrounding Old Town, creating a beautiful contrast with the city’s modern skyline. After dark, the illuminated stone façade makes the cathedral stand out even more, while the Black Sea and mountains of Adjara provide a dramatic backdrop from the air.
Photography Tips
Blue hour is arguably the best time to photograph the cathedral from above. The warm illumination of the façade contrasts beautifully with the deep blue sky, while the remaining ambient light keeps details visible across Batumi and the surrounding mountains. Position the drone directly in front of the cathedral for a strong symmetrical composition and gain enough altitude to include the coastline behind it. Slightly underexposing helps protect the bright architectural lighting.
Travel Information
The cathedral is located in central Batumi, within easy walking distance of Europe Square, Batumi Piazza, and many other Old Town sights. You can photograph the exterior from several surrounding streets, making it worth visiting even without a drone. As it remains an active place of worship, be respectful when visiting or photographing around the entrance. For aerial photography, check current Georgian drone regulations and local airspace restrictions before flying.
