Georgia Black Sea promenade, Batumi
Batumi’s Black Sea promenade stretches for kilometers along the coastline and is one of the best places to experience the city’s connection to the sea. Beyond the famous skyline and landmarks, the rocky shoreline, waves, and small details of everyday life create plenty of more intimate photo opportunities. In the evening, locals gather along the water, giving the promenade a relaxed and authentic atmosphere.
Photography Tips
A telephoto lens works particularly well along the promenade, letting you compress the rocky shoreline and isolate people, waves, and small structures against the Black Sea. Get low and shoot parallel to the coast so the rocks create strong leading lines through the frame. Late afternoon and sunset provide softer light, while slightly longer shutter speeds can add movement to waves breaking between the rocks. Look beyond the obvious skyline views—some of the strongest compositions here come from small everyday scenes along the waterfront.
Travel Information
Batumi Boulevard and the Black Sea promenade run for several kilometers along the city’s waterfront, making the area very easy to explore on foot or by bicycle. Numerous access points connect the promenade with both the Old Town and Batumi’s modern districts. Allow time to walk along the coast and explore different sections, as the waterfront's character changes considerably from one part of the city to another. Sunset is particularly popular, so expect more people around the shoreline in the evening.
