Maria Gern Church, Bavaria - Hill View Germany

The pilgrimage church Maria Gern in Berchtesgaden, Bavaria is a well-known location for photography. Photographing this spot from the street or from any public area is allowed, the very typical view from the hill is a private area though and therefore now prohibited by the owner - probably because too many photographers were standing up there every day. Please respect this or request a special permit.

I tried the exact location marked on the map here and eventually got shouted at by some angry German saying that this is private property and I should get out immediately. Just beware :)

Yes, I've seen your description. However, the location you marked on the map IS on the private property, so I'm just making it clear for everybody, because as a non-german I didn't find the signs at location to be very clear. Unfortunately, it also happens to be one of the best viewpoints because the composition doesn't work all that well once you move back to the road for instance.

Indeed, it is private property. And indeed it is the best viewpoint. I tried several times now, and never made it to the top of that hill next to the road.

It might be easier to delete the pictures, taken from private ground. You can't recommend the spot on a page like this. The other photographers will get into trouble...
