Photography Tips
As the subway station's architecture has a modern asymmetrical touch, you will need quite a while to get used to the surroundings and probably won't take those typical subway photos as the structures don't entirely allow it.
When you have enough time to shoot, it will be a tempting challenge to create cool photos there. The fact that the whole station seems to be quite poorly attended around the clock as well and the lighting is adequate to photograph handheld (ISO 400-800) while maintaining a chilled mood.
Use a wide-angle to get the whole room into one shot. Get down low, to create the impression of an even bigger room, and use something in the foreground to draw the viewer into your shot.
Talking of chillness, make sure to bring a coat - it gets quite cold down there.

Travel Information
The subway station itself is aimed by number 5 (underground) as well as numbers 1, 7 & 9 (above ground). Coming from Cologne Central Station (HBF) you can either take number 5 and drive two stations until Heumarkt or walk about 800m.
As the station is located between the Rheinauhafen and the Central Station it's worth a quick side-trip when doing a photo walk in the area.
