The Friedrich Heinrich mine began sinking Shafts 1 and 2 using the freezing method in 1908. Shaft 1 served as a production shaft with a reinforced concrete headframe, while Shaft 2 functioned as a ventilation shaft equipped with a strut frame. Coal production started in 1912 at depths of 350 and 400 meters. Both shafts were integral to the mine's operations, contributing to its peak production before being integrated into the Friedrich Heinrich/Rheinland consolidated mine in 1993. After closure, the shafts were filled, but their surface facilities remain preserved.
