Germany Landshuter Tor Erding

The Landshuter Tor is a striking landmark in Erding, Upper Bavaria. Built in 1408 in the late Gothic style, it is the last remaining gate tower of the city's original medieval fortifications. Today, this majestic brick structure, crowned with a distinctive 17th-century bell-shaped dome, serves as the picturesque main entrance to the historic old town. Its richly detailed facade and prominent position make it a fantastic architectural subject.

Because the tower is situated directly at the entrance to the bustling inner city, shooting early in the morning or late in the evening is highly recommended to avoid heavy pedestrian traffic and capture a clean shot. A wide-angle lens is ideal for fitting the entire structure, including its iconic dome, into the frame from the street level. Use the charming surrounding streets and historic buildings as leading lines to draw the viewer’s eye toward the gate. The historical brickwork also looks especially beautiful when illuminated by the warm light of the golden hour.

Erding is highly accessible, and visiting this spot is exceptionally convenient. Whether you arrive by car or public transport, the Erding train station is the best starting point. There is a large, free parking lot located directly at the station where you can easily leave your vehicle. From the station, it is only a relaxed 5 to 10-minute walk to the tower. Passing through the gate brings you right into the heart of the Altstadt, making it the perfect starting point to explore the rest of the city on foot.
