The Wasserturm Eilsleben is a historic water tower situated on a small elevation just outside the town, beautifully overlooking the vast fields of the Magdeburger Börde. Built between 1869 and 1872, this impressive brick structure was originally constructed to supply water for the steam locomotives of the local railway depot. Resting on a sturdy stone base and topped with a restored wooden roof, it stands today as a beautifully preserved piece of industrial heritage. Positioned right on the edge of a small wooded area next to an old railway line, the tower offers an idyllic and highly romantic subject for architectural and landscape photography.

Photography Tips

This spot becomes incredibly photogenic during the summer when vibrant red poppies bloom in the adjacent agricultural fields of the Börde region, an area famous for having some of the most fertile soil in Europe. Using the poppy fields as a colorful foreground creates a stunning natural frame for the rustic brick tower. The absolute best time to photograph this location is during sunset. The expansive, flat landscape allows the low, golden sunlight to wash over the fields, beautifully illuminating the flowers and bringing out the warm tones of the historic masonry. Explore different angles along the edge of the field to find a perfectly balanced composition between the blooming flowers, the surrounding trees, and the tower itself.

Travel Information

Eilsleben is highly accessible, located conveniently right next to the A2 autobahn. The absolute best way to reach the water tower is by following the town's former railway line, which runs directly past the site and serves as a dedicated path. You can easily park your vehicle in Eilsleben and enjoy a relaxed, scenic walk or bike ride along this old track straight into nature. The town also has an active train station located on the main line between Braunschweig and Magdeburg, making it incredibly easy to visit the tower using regional public transit.
