Germany Waldschlösschen Waldrogäsen
Deep within the forested, rolling hills of the "Jerichower Schweiz" lies the Waldschlösschen Waldrogäsen, a hidden architectural jewel nestled directly on the L52. Once the sprawling summer residence of the noble von Thümen family, the estate's centerpiece is a striking manor house that evolved from a simple, symmetrical classicist building into a romantic, asymmetrical "Schloss" around 1900. With its distinctive rusticated octagonal corner pavilion and square integrated tower, the manor has served many roles over the centuries—surviving the tragic shooting of General Heinrich von dem Hagen in 1945 to become a GDR diet sanatorium, a post-reunification administrative school, and briefly a hotel. Today, the estate lies vacant and overgrown. Its sprawling, naturalized English landscape park hides ancient, protected oak trees—some up to 500 years old—and a moody, historic forest cemetery featuring the imposing classicist tomb of Curt von Thümen.
Photography Tips
This location is an absolutely spectacular drone photography spot. Flying above the property allows you to capture the romantic, asymmetrical rooflines, the square tower, and the octagonal pavilion perfectly framed by the vast, dense canopy of the Jerichower Schweiz. Crucial Warning: The Waldschlösschen is strictly private property and is currently monitored by camera surveillance. Before launching a drone or taking any photographs, you must respect local aviation regulations, check for airspace restrictions, and obtain explicit permission from the owner or managing real estate agent. If granted legal access to the grounds, the overgrown English park, the massive ancient oak trees by the pond, and the weathered stonework of the Thümen family forest cemetery provide deeply atmospheric, moody motifs.
Travel Information
Waldrogesen is a tiny, remote forestry settlement consisting of the manor, two other houses, and an abandoned nursery, located between Wüstenjerichow and Küsel. While it sits conveniently just three kilometers from the A2 (Theeßen exit), the property itself is strictly off-limits to the public without prior arrangement. Please respect the prominent "no trespassing" signs and the privacy of the owners. For those who enjoy hiking without trespassing on private property, the surrounding Jerichower Schweiz—part of a massive nature conservation area—offers beautifully untouched, quiet woodland trails ideal for peaceful walks away from the crowds.
