Greenland Sediments at Rypefjord near Eielson Glacier

Rypefjord is a remote branch of the vast Scoresby Sound fjord system, surrounded by rugged mountains and untouched Arctic wilderness. At its innermost end, the Eielson Glacier reaches into the fjord, creating a surreal landscape with lots of sediments in front of the glacier.

When launching from a moving sailboat, take off into the wind from a clear part of the deck and consider hand-catching when landing. And always keep a close eye on the wind and battery — flying away from a moving boat can quickly eat into your return time, especially in the unpredictable conditions around glaciers.

Rypefjord, deep inside the Scoresbysund fjord system, is one of the most remote places you can reach in Greenland. There are no roads or infrastructure here. The area is explored by sailing boat, smaller expedition vessel, kayak or multi-day guided kayak trips, with August to roughly mid-September being the best window to experience it. Just around 500 people coming per year.
