Greenland Waterfalls at Sol Glacier, Scoresbysund

The waterfalls around Sol Glacier are fed by seasonal glacial meltwater, cascading down the steep mountain slopes before reaching the fjord. In summer, warmer temperatures can turn these streams into powerful temporary waterfalls, adding another striking element to the landscape of ice, dark rock and sediment.

Use a longer lens to isolate smaller details in the landscape. Waterfalls, ice textures or sediment patterns are interesting next to just shooting the full scene.

When photographing from a moving sailing boat, increase your shutter speed to around 1/500s or faster to compensate for the boat’s movement, then adjust ISO a bit accordingly if necessary.

Scoresbysund is one of the most remote places you can reach in Greenland. There are no roads or infrastructure here. The area is explored by sailing boat, smaller expedition vessel, kayak or multi-day guided kayak trips, with August to roughly mid-September being the best window to experience it. Just around 500 people coming per year.
