Greenland Moon glacier, Scoresbysund

Moon Glacier is one of the remote, wild corners of Scoresbysund, where the glacier meets a landscape scattered with drifting sea ice. The many ice floes create an ideal hunting environment for polar bears, making this area one of the places where encounters are possible. Surrounded by silence, mountains and endless ice, it feels like one of the truly untouched places in East Greenland.

Use the drone to frame the sailing boat next to the glacier. The scale is sometimes massive and gives you a good impression of how huge this remote place is.

When launching from a moving sailboat, take off into the wind from a clear part of the deck and consider hand-catching when landing. And always keep a close eye on the wind and battery — flying away from a moving boat can quickly eat into your return time, especially in the unpredictable conditions around this fjord system.

Scoresbysund is one of the most remote places you can reach in Greenland. There are no roads or infrastructure here. The area is explored by sailing boat, smaller expedition vessel, kayak or multi-day guided kayak trips, with August to roughly mid-September being the best window to experience it. Just around 500 people coming per year.
