Greenland Glacier colors and details, Øjford, Scoresbysund

Øfjord is one of the most impressive branches of the Scoresbysund fjord system, surrounded by steep mountains and numerous glaciers. Some glaciers descend from the high mountain plateaus towards the fjord, creating a dramatic contrast between rock, ice and deep water. Glacial ice calving into the fjord contributes to the many icebergs drifting through the wider Scoresbysund system. Sailing deeper into Øfjord brings you closer to this untouched landscape and its impressive scale.

For glacier detail shots, get close with a telephoto lens and look for cracks, ice textures, blue tones and sharp edges in the ice. Use a long focal length to isolate small structures and compress the layers of the glacier and surrounding mountains. Look for interesting foreground elements like rocks, meltwater or snow to add depth. Soft light or overcast conditions often work best for revealing subtle textures without harsh highlights.

Scoresbysund is one of the most remote places you can reach in Greenland. There are no roads or infrastructure here. The area is explored by sailing boat, smaller expedition vessel, kayak or multi-day guided kayak trips, with August to roughly mid-September being the best window to experience it. Just around 500 people coming per year.
