Get there at sunrise to avoid the tourist crowds. The gate is not locked so you can get in easily.
Travel Information
You can drive along the popular Golden Circle route in Iceland. The Geysir geothermal area is located in the Haukadalur Valley, approximately 100 kilometers east of Reykjavik. If you are driving from Reykjavik, take Route 1 (the Ring Road) eastward for approximately 45 kilometers, then turn right onto Route 35 towards Geysir. Follow the road for another 10 kilometers until you reach the Geysir parking area. Parking is free of charge, but it can get quite busy during peak season.
