Iceland Brink of Skogafoss
Before attempting every hike, I thoroughly research the route including total length, potential obstacles, and elevation gain. In this case, the “Waterfall Way” hike at Skogafoss starts with a climb up to the brink of Skogafoss aided by steps and handrails. My initial search revealed that there are “over 300 steps” to the top. No Problem. I can do that in my sleep. Just to be sure, I checked another web page and was glad I did because this one said there are 400 steps. Since this was a significant jump I decided to check further and the next expert said there are 500. The last article I read said there are 527 steps! I’m NOT joking! The climb was getting more and more rigorous with every link I opened so I decided to stop looking since my personal limit for step climbing happens to be 527. That said, I made it to the top (and beyond) after a few stops to catch my breath.
When I began the climb I was determined to count the steps so I could definitively report the exact number of steps to the top. Somewhere after 200, my oxygen deprived brain forgot I was supposed to be counting so I have no idea. Maybe that’s why everyone’s memory is so foggy. The climb is absolutely worth it though.

Photography Tips
Take your tripod. I knew there are numerous waterfalls beyond the brink but decided to forego the extra weight and regretted it.
