Barðastrandarsandur is a striking beach in the remote Westfjords of Iceland, known for its dramatic, rugged coastline and powerful Atlantic waves. Unlike the more famous southern beaches, it remains quiet and untouched, offering a raw, almost otherworldly atmosphere. It’s a place where steep mountains meet the sea, giving visitors a sense of isolation and wild natural beauty.

Photography Tips

When tides shift, the beach will change its form. When it does, have a look into the different patterns of outflows, the beach, the small little sandbanks. They can be used as subject points for your frame.

Travel Information

Barðastrandarsandur is a long, remote beach in the Westfjords region, and getting there is already part of the adventure. It’s typically accessed via gravel roads from towns like Patreksfjörður or Bíldudalur, and a 4x4 vehicle is strongly recommended, even in summer, due to steep, unpaved sections and changing road conditions.
