Located in the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento, the temple of Hercules, as recoded by Cisero, is the most ancient temple in Agrigento. It dates beck to the end of the 6th Century B.C. Built of limestone in the Doric style, the oldest and least decorative of the Greek Orders, it was six columns wide and fifteen long. There have been numerous restorations since 1921 when the English Captain Alexander Hardcastle had eight columns re-erected on the south side. More recently the Parks Authority wit EU funds has worked on the conservation of the building.
