Italy Hike to Sunset/Sunrise Dolomite View from Rifugio Auronzo

This spot works for both sunset and sunrise. I went here when the spot I was going for (Forcella Lavaredo) was covered in butts and this was open. It takes about an hour to reach from the parking lot and there is rolling elevation with little overall gain until the very end.

White balance is challenging with all of the exposed and worn limestone rock. At sunrise and sunset, the colors can really throw things off. Know how to use a gray card.

Drive to the parking lot at Rifugio Auronzo, paying the 30 euro fee before the steep road that gains most of your elevation. From the hut, hike to the chapel (Capella degli alpini) along the main trail to the northeast. Once there, follow the smaller trail down the hill to the east. Once it rounds the corner and heads south, follow the fork right. Stay low once on the mountain, as going too far up will restrict the lower view of the mountains to the south.
