About the location
Photographers are drawn to the intricate textures of the over one million ceramic tiles that cover the shells, which reflect light in diverse ways depending on the sun's angle. The building’s design by Jørn Utzon allows for creative framing from numerous vantage points around Circular Quay, the Royal Botanic Garden, and across the water from Milsons Point. Whether capturing wide-angle vistas or abstract close-ups of the geometry, the site serves as a versatile subject for both day and night photography. During the annual Vivid Sydney festival, the sails become a canvas for light projections, offering a completely different photographic experience.
