Netherlands Cheese Farm De Haal at Zaanse Schans, Zaandam
Zaanse Schans is a beautiful historic, open-air village located in the Netherlands, just 20 minutes from Amsterdam. It is famous for its impressive collection of windmills, wooden houses, farms, and traditional workshops, which bring to life a picturesque 17th and 18th-century landscape. The village is not a static museum, but a residential and working neighborhood where traditional trades are still practiced.
The windmills are not just for decoration; some are still in operation and were used for sawing wood, grinding spices, producing oil, cocoa, and paint pigments. The village is also dotted with charming green wooden houses, small bridges over meandering canals, and artisan shops where you can see demonstrations of trades such as cheesemaking, wooden clog making, and distilling. Zaanse Schans is a living postcard of Dutch culture and history.
